BFAR gives San Jose salt-making equipment
SAN JOSE, Antique — The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has recently turned over salt-making paraphernalia to Antique province’s capital town of San Jose de Buenavista as aid to small fisherfolk here who are looking for other means to augment their income.
Salt-makers from Barangays Magcalon, Mojon, and San Pedro received polyethylene plastic sheets and other salt-making paraphernalia from BFAR through the local government unit of San Jose de Buenavista.
This is line with the program thrust of the local government in supporting small fishermen with sources of income other than fishing to support their families.
Each received 25 meters of polyethylene sheets used to line salt evaporation ponds.
The salt-makers use solar salt-making process in which salt is extracted from sea water through solar evaporation. (Mars Mosqueda Jr.)
