MEDELLIN, Cebu, Philippines – Aiming to provide full benefits to job order, project-based and casual employees in local government units (LGUs) in the province, the Pag-IBIG Fund Cebu North Branch recently visited several towns in this part of the province to encourage LGUs to enroll their workers with the agency.

Dale Mark F. Antonio, Pag-IBIG Fund Cebu North Branch information officer said such recent visits are part of efforts to forge and strengthen more ties with LGUs and to ask them to enroll their employees with Pag-IBIG.

It can be recalled that Pag-IBIG has already entered into an agreement with the Tabogon and Borbon town governments for fund coverage of its job order or project-based and casual employees under the self-employed category.

The said towns, through their respective mayors, agreed to deduct from the employees’ salary the equivalent of two percent of members’ monthly compensation.

However, the employees may opt to contribute more than what is mandated by law.

In line with the agreement, the LGU will remit the collection directly to the Pag-IBIG Fund while the LGU is also authorized to collect loan payments through salary deduction scheme.

Antonio pointed out that enrollment of employees with Pag-IBIG will allow them to enjoy such full benefits granted by the Fund to its members as housing loans, short-term loan/multi-purpose loans or calamity loans.

Even if job order employees have no employee-employer relationship with the LGU, RA 9679 provides they are required to register as Pag-IBIG members under self-employed coverage.
