200 kilos of bad dog meat seized in Baguio
BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – Police operatives and traffic agents seized at least 200 kilos of alleged double-dead dog meat found loaded in a vehicle the meat for proper disposal while the underaged driver was turned over to the City Social Welfare and Development Office for appropriate counseling pursuant to the provisions of Republic Act (RA) 9344 or the Juvenile Justice Act.
Lacdan said his probers are still conducting an investigation to ascertain who owns the vehicle and who is responsible for transporting the double-dead dog meat in violation of the provisions of the Animal Welfare Act.
Animal rights advocates in the region hailed the relentless effort of law enforcement agencies to go after individuals involved in the transport of dog meat and other types of hot meat that will compromise the health of people eating the same.that was stopped for a smoke-belching inspection on Kennon Road, here, the other day.
Senior Superintendent David Q. Lacdan, director of the Baguio City Police Office (CPO), said the seizure of the double-dead dog meat was incidental to the smoke-belching violation of the Tamaraw FX that was driven by a 17-year-old boy who was not even of legal driving age.
Further investigation showed that the double-dead dog meat came from Laguna and that the boy was supposed to make deliveries at various restaurants in this city and the nearby town of La Trinidad in Benguet.
The vehicle was supposed to be apprehended for violation of the smoke belching ordinance of the city but it turned out that the driver and the vehicle owner had more violations.
The vehicle reeked of a foul odor and when police and anti-smoke belching agents inspected the contents of the vehicle, they found four sacks of reported double-dead meat.
Lacdan said his men assigned at the checkpoint called in officers from the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) in the Cordillera Administrative Office to assess the meat.
The NMIS officers decided to confiscate the meat for proper disposal while the underaged driver was turned over to the City Social Welfare and Development Office for appropriate counseling pursuant to the provisions of Republic Act (RA) 9344 or the Juvenile Justice Act.
