Ping: Don't use the pulpit
MANILA, Philippines -- Don’t use the pulpit.
This was the advice issued Sunday by administration ally, Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, to Catholic Church leaders opposed to the Reproductive Health (RH) Bill.
Lacson said it would be more appropriate for the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) to encourage participation in dialogues on features of the bill than communicate their objections from the rostrum.
“Kung may bagong punto na gusto nilang i-raise, daanin sa paliwanag pero panawagan ko, huwag daanin sa pulpito (If they raise new points against the bill they may explain it, but my appeal for them not to use the pulpit),” Lacson said in an interview over radio DZBB.
He added: “Walang laban ang nagsisimba. (Parishioners have no choice. They cannot reason out with priests. They would just listen, and if they are in disagreement, they will walk out).”
Lacson also frowned on prelates for threatening the government they would not file taxes to show their opposition to the RH bill.
He said the Aquino administration is correct in saying it could file sedition charges against those who would refuse to pay taxes as a protest against the Palace-backed measure.
The senator explained that the threat influences the faithful to commit civil disobedience.
Pero may pananagutan kayo sa ating lipunan (The government position is correct. You have the option to violate a law like tax evasion, but you will be accountable to society),” Lacson said.
“If they refuse to pay taxes, they are liable for tax evasion. If we allow them and they say it is a political act of civil disobedience and refuse to pay taxes, then what about the rest of the 94 million Filipinos who rely on the government’s social services through the taxes that we pay? What about those who are faithful in paying their taxes? Should we just let them get away with it? I think that is unfair,” he added.

BE aware and BEWARE Jesus said.NOT ALL WHO CALLS ME LORD LORD IS MINE ONLY THOSE WHO DO THE WILL OF THE FATHER.
These PRIESTS who opposes the government are HYPOCRITES,dahil ang iba sa kanila molestador ng mga batang lalaking sakristan tapos kala mo kong sinong malilinis na ayaw ng RH BILL eh sila nga itong pina aabort ang mga ipinag bubuntis ng mga nabuntisan nila.
The pulpit should be used to spread the Word of God, not the word of bishops!
Lets the taxpayers decide.
May ginawa ba kayo?
Year 2011 na ngaun, may nangyari ba?
I agree with Sen Lacson, do'nt use the pulpit!
To the priests: Learn to respect & you will be respected.
No wonder, kumakaunti na ang mga katoliko dahil hindi nyo na rerepresent ng maayos ang dapat sanay gawin nyo- to represent the virtues of Christ.
Why did you hide if were innocent?
Di po totoo ang separation of chruch and state. If you can not conquer the Phil. by the swords conquer them by the cross.
To the advocates of RH Bill, dont use the public square to pursue your own agenda of impurities & defilement
Senator Lacson is right, priest should not use the pulpit in their own agenda, pulpit must be use in spreading the Gospel, majority of the chatolics are pro RH Bill, kung di talaga magkasundo ang simbahan at gobyerno sa usapin ng rh bill my suggestion is daaninin na lang sa eleksyon at least ang taong bayan na ang magpapasya para sa kanilang pamilya.
Senator Lacson is right, binabastos na ng mga kaparian ang pulpito na dapat sana ay ginagamit to spread the Word of God, majority of the catholics are pro RH Bill, ang suggestion ko di rin lang magkasundo ang gobyerno at simbahan, daanin na lang sa eleksyon at least ang taong bayan ang magpapasya at dito di na makakaangal pa ang simbahan o gobyerno dahil ang mga pilipino na ang mamimili para sa kanilang pamilya.
The anti-RH clergy have been losing logical debates and have been going ad hominem or just attacking the personalities behind the arguments because they can't win through logic. But what's the big deal? The church doesn't pay any taxes. I also doubt their civil disobedience will get anywhere, Jesus made the case for paying taxes even to an unjust government like the Romans, sino ba sila na mas dakila pa sa Anak ng Dios? I was so upset when I heard from my family about the homily in the morning that I went to a Christian church instead. Despite my being a Catholic youth and Church leader for 20 years, I'm probably not going back. Their vitriol has no place in a church. Bishops will lose 20% of their flock and 40% of their collection to Christian churches.
CBCP, wake up this is not the 19th century that you think what you say people will believe. Like priest who have kids when there are still in the priesthood. Can you not just let the people see for themselve. That is why i don't go to church anymore coz the preist think they are the best during the SERMON. They are crazy to think on that. This is 21st century and IT age so let people do and think what they want to do. Always remember that there is a SEPERATION of CHURCH and STATE.
PING LACSON'S ADMONITION TO THE CATHOLIC CHURCH
NOT TO USE THE PULPIT AGAINST THE RH BILL, I BELIEVE
IS OUT-OF-LINE. THEN HE SHOULD NOT BE ALSO USING
THE SENATE HALL TO ADVANCE HIS OWN AGENDA AGAINST
ANYBODY.
