JOLO, Sulu, Philippines – Government officials and stakeholders from the provinces of Sulu, Basilan, and Tawi-Tawi Tuesday urged the Senate Committee on Local Government to conduct a similar hearing in Zamboanga City regarding Senate Bill 2756, which seeks to postpone the elections in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) from Aug. 8, 2011 to 2013.

In a letter sent Tuesday to Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, Sulu Gov. Abdusakur Tan said “we governors and stakeholders of the insular provinces of Sulu, Basilan, and Tawi-Tawi are not comfortable attending such hearing for the postponement of the ARMM elections in Marawi City.”

The Senate Committee on Local Government chaired by Sen. Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. will conduct Thursday in Marawi City a public hearing on Senate Bill 2756 seeking to postpone the ARMM elections
