Government aid reaches Surigao poor
TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur, Philippines – The government’s poverty alleviation program – which is currently being fast-tracked by the Aquino administration, mostly in poor far-flung and remote communities around the country -- is now bearing the fruit.
The program has already assisted 32,653 poor household beneficiaries in Surigao del Sur province alone, it was bared yesterday.
The poverty alleviation program of the Aquino administration, which is vigorously and currently implemented by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), is continuously serving the 17 municipalities of the province and the city of Tandag.
Todate, the household beneficiaries of these areas have already received cash card payroll amounting to more than P77.06 million.
This is apart from the over-the-counter cash grant of more than P69.5 million from the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP).
In her report to Region XIII DSWD Regional Director Mercedita Jabagat, Mrs. May Salinas, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officers (PSWDO) of Surigao del Sur, said these household beneficiaries have already benefited from the seven basic programs and services extended by the government.
The DSWD officer cited the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program or 4Ps, Self-Employment Assistance- Kaunlaran (SEA-K), Child and Youth Welfare, Women Welfare Program, Elder Persons and Persons with Disabilities, Emergency Assistance, and Referral, as well as crises intervention.
Salinas gave more emphasis on the 4P,s which is being implemented to targeted poor far-flung communities in the province and this city.
