MANILA, Philippines -- A group posing as traffic enforcers of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) siphoned off P1 million worth of kerosene from a truck in Quezon City, police reported Sunday.

Investigator SPO2 Rodrigo Barrameda said the hijacking took place last Friday along C.P. Garcia Road in the campus of University of the Philippines in Diliman.

Barrameda said the kerosene was being delivered to Pasig City on a 10-wheeler Isuzu Giga with license plate RGM 321 owned by hauling company, GZSB Enterprises.

The truck driver, Grizaldy Basconcillo, 45, told investigators the hijackers were four men riding two motorcycles. The driver was able to get the motorbikes’ plate numbers

Basconcillo said one of the suspects was armed with .38 caliber revolver and another had a .45 caliber pistol.

He said the suspects wore blue MMDA uniforms complete with nameplates.

Barrameda did not divulge the names on the nameplate and the plate numbers of the motorcycles because follow-up operations were still in progress.

Basconcillo said he was driving at around midnight Friday along C.P. Garcia when the group flagged him down and told him that he committed a traffic infraction.

One suspect then pulled out a gun and leveled it at the driver.

Two suspects boarded the truck while another tied the driver’s hands behind his back and covered his eyes with packing tape.

For about one and a half hours, the driver said, the group busied themselves siphoning the kerosene from the truck’s container.

Basconcillo said he was then forced out of the truck and his feet were tied with packing tape.

The group then locked the driver inside a steel compartment on the side of the truck.

Basconcillo said he felt the truck move again. When it stopped after two hours, he started banging at the compartment to attract attention.

He got out with the help of passing tricycle driver.

Basconcillo found that he was in McArthur Highway in Barangay Wakas in Bocaue, Bulacan. When he got out, he reported the incident to the Bocaue police.
