Peace effort
Some 500 bikers “will take an extra mile for peace in Mindanao” as they registered to join Dean Marvic Leonen, chairperson of the govern-ment peace panel talking peace with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), in “bike for peace in Mindanao 2011.”
The bike for peace, slated on May 29 at 6 a.m., simply aimed at promot-ing peace and raise awareness on the government’s efforts to bring about peace in southern Philippines, the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) said in a statement.
“We will pedal extra mile for peace in our land,” Cotabato City Mayor Japal Guiani Jr. said as he directed all city government employees to contribute for the success of the bike for peace.
The race will start in front of the Cotabato City Hall, also known as “peoples’ palace,” and will trek the 38-kilometer Cotabato City-Upi in Maguindanao.
Biking enthusiasts, government officials, civil society organizations, and the military will unite for this peace campaign dubbed a “Bike for Peace 2011.”
