Cagayan de Oro mulling ‘Chinatown’
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines – The hierarchy of the city government here is pushing for the creation of a “Chinatown" here due to the influx of Chinese families, businessmen, and investors to this city, it was learned yesterday.
It was also learned that most Chinese businessmen here are willing to establish a “Chinatown” which will accommodate various Chinese business establishments in the city.
This developed after City Mayor Vicente Y. Emano made a statement recently regarding the plan to establish a ‘Chinatown” at the heart of the city.
The city’s chief executive noted that a number of Chinese investors are likewise interested to open their branches here.
Emano said he already started roundtable discussions with the members of thecity’sLegislative body for the said plan.
Also, in a recent press statement released by the city’s information office, it stated that several members of the City Council already concurred to the idea of the city mayor.
“I have actually planned this with members of the majority block of the City Council with the hope of attracting the Chinese investors who want to establish their businesses here," added the city mayor.
Emano, who is called as the “Father of Modern Cagayan de Oro,” was recently invited by local businessmen to lead a trade mission to China in order to meet with the Chinese businessmen and invite them to invest in the city.
The “workaholic” mayor is determined to make Cagayan de Oro a “Modern City” in Southern Philippines, it was also learned.
