Gas tank explosion injures 7, damages P300T worth of property

ILOILO CITY, Philippines (PNA) — An explosion caused by a liquified petroleum gas (LPG) tank inside an apartment in Barangay Lawaan, Roxas City on Friday injured seven individuals and damaged at least P300,000 worth of household equipment and property.

Fire Officer 1 Raymond Barroa of the Roxas City Bureau of Fire Protection said a leak on the LPG tube caused the explosion.

Friends Raffy Hechanova and Lito Valencia were cooking in their rented apartment on Friday morning when the explosion happened.

The two are presently confined at a hospital in Roxas City for third degree burns in different parts of their bodies.

The ceiling of the apartment gave way while the window jalousies were blown to pieces as an aftermath of the strong explosion.

Five minor bystanders who were standing along the road just outside of the apartment were also injured by splinters of broken window glass of the apartment owned by Roxas City Mayor Allan Celino.

The injured minors identified as Daniel Hernane and his cousins Chili, Anthony and Edward were also brought to the hospital in Roxas City for treatment.
