MALOLOS CITY, Bulacan – The Provincial Government of Bulacan, through the initiative of Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado, conducted a free cataract and other eye operation project at the Calumpit District Hospital (CDH) over the weekend.

CDH records showed that 89 visually impaired patients benefited from the two-day free eye operation mission, which included cataract removal and surgical procedures to correct cross-eyed (duling), squint-eyed (banlag) and pterygium (pugita).

The said operation was headed by Dr. Tyrone Concepcion, hospital director of CDH and Dr. Mario Reyes, leader of the seven specialists from Ospital ng Maynila who participated in the said activity.

Meanwhile, Alvarado extended his gratitude to the eight eye specialists who participated and supported the free cataract operation.

Aside from the free operation, the PGB also gave free medicines to the patients.

The governor said that Bulacan is fortunate for having a free medical mission such as this and assured the Bulakenyos that it will be done quarterly through Kapitolyo sa Barangay.

He also advised his constituents especially those who are aged to immediately consult a doctor when experiencing a blurry vision and to regularly undergo eye check up and sight tests to avoid further complications.

The said activity was made possible in cooperation with the Department of Health and Cataract Foundation of the Philippines, Inc.

A cataract is a clouding of the normally clear lens of your eye. For people who have cataracts, seeing through cloudy lenses is a bit like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window.
