MANILA, Philippines — Bacoor, the so-called gateway of Cavite, will likely become a city on 2012, Congresswoman Lani Mercado-Revilla said over the week-end.

The movie actress-turned politician said that the Bacoor cityhood measure is now on second reading at the House of Representatives.

The approval of the Bacoor cityhood bill has been pending in Congress for more than two decades. Bacoor is only one of the towns in Cavite which virtually have applied to become a city. The others are Imus, Cavite’s capital; Carmona and General Trias.

“All we’re just waiting is for the House to approve the cityhood bill on third reading bill in July and its transmittal to the Senate. Bacoor will become a city as soon as we go on with the plebiscite in 2012,” said the jubilant pretty legislator in the vernacular.

Bacoor District Rep. Revilla is sure that the municipal government will get the people's mandate through the cityhood plebiscite.

She made the cityhood assurance in a speech at the launching of the Mamamayan Nilalang para sa Lambat at Dagat Cooperative last Saturday at the town’s Barangay Sinueguelasan Covered Court.

During the event, the Maynilad family led by businessman Manuel V. Pangilinan donated R1 million to the Bacoor government and the new cooperative group under Allan Chua.
