CONSOLACION, Cebu, Philippines — A total of six new classrooms, a concrete bridge, and a birthing center were inaugurated on Thursday in the different towns around Cebu province as Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia reiterated that the Capitol is aiming to build at least 200 classrooms this year.

Lamac Elementary School and Tayud National High School, both in the town of Consolacion, and Badian National High School officially received the new two-classroom school buildings from the Province of Cebu following Thursday's inauguration.

Garcia also inaugurated the P6.8-million Jugan-Tayud Concrete Bridge in Consolacion and birthing center in Badian as she also handed out school supplies composed of bags, notebooks, pencils, among others, to students in the said schools while anti-rabies vaccines for dogs, a wheelchair, and assistive devices in both towns.

The governor earlier announced that the Provincial Government is targeting the completion of at least 200 classrooms around the province, on top of the 620 classrooms it has built since 2004.

She said her administration is allocating funds for the building of at least 200 classrooms per year. In fact, she said, this year the Capitol could be building more if the 200 buildings will be finished before the year ends.

“There's not other local government unit that has completed as many classrooms,” said Garcia, as she also announced the Provincial Government is currently bidding again for another 200 classrooms.

Garcia urged the Department of Education (DepEd) to not just announce that there will be no classes under the mango trees when school opens next week but to actually build more school buildings that can be used by students.
