UP Film Institute June screening

MANILA, Philippines — The University of the Philippines Film Institute will commemorate Jose Rizal's 150th birth anniversary with a pair of titles based on the immortal character created by the national hero as Gerardo de Leon's. Sisa (1951) is presented back-to-back with Mario O'Hara's Sisa (1999) from June 16, Thursday to June 18, Saturday.

The best of French cinema will be featured in this year's French Film Festival courtesy of the Embassy of France in the Philippines from June 29 to July 2.

Currently on view at the Ishmael Bernal Gallery are photo and video works from the recent graduates of the UPFI Summer Workshops under the helm of Kiri Dalena, Frankie Callaghan, Gari Buenavista, Daemon Becker, Milo Paz and Estan Cabigas.

LGBT artists and supporters gather together on June 24, Friday for The Pink Manifesto, which aims to foster a sense of community and pride while also valuing individuality through art, music and ideas.

Outdoor photo installation features young conceptual artist Catalina Africa's Broken Pleases. Admission is free to all screenings.

MLQU holds seminar on clinical psychology

The Manuel L. Quezon University School of Graduate Studies will hold a seminar in clinical psychology on July 14 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Audio-Visual Room, 4th Floor, Monzon Bldg., MLQU.

Topics include Distinguishing Schizophrenia from other Mental Disorders with Psychosis as a feature (morning session, 8 a.m. to 12 noon); Disruptive Behavioral Disorders; Childhood Conduct Disorder / Oppositional Defiant Disorder; and Adult Anti-Social Personality Disorder (afternoon session, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.)

Keynote speaker is Dr. Nilda G. Woolsey, licensed psychotherapist from the United States and Dean of the MLQU School of Graduate Studies.

The seminar is intended to bring out the differential diagnosis and similarities of the above-mentioned disorders, and is also aimed at determining the more effective intervention a therapist may employ via psychotherapy and/or psychopharmacology.

Army’s 6th infantry division joins medical mission

More than 200 civilian residents including children ages from six months old and to 16 years old who have a cleft lip/palate from South-Central Mindanao benefited from an “Operation Smile” medical mission held from June 7-11, at Camp Siongco Station Hospital in 6ID, Camp Siongco, Awang, Dos Maguindanao.

Operation Smile is a non-government organization that provides repair surgeries to children worldwide, assists countries in reaching self-sufficiency with these surgeries, and works to reduce the occurrence of cleft lips and palates. Moreover, Operation Smile provides life-altering surgeries to the patients who are in need of immediate medical attention.

The five-day activity is a joint activity of the 6ID, the Joint Special Operations Task Force-Philippines of the US Army and other partner-stakeholders such as the local government units of Central Mindanao and other line agencies like Department of Health-ARMM, DSWD-ARMM, Manila and Davao based plastic surgeons and anesthesiologists, Cotabato City based NGO Junior Chamber International and facilitated by US based Knightsbridge International.

The group is composed of an 11-man team headed by Dr. Lawrence Loh, Dr. Edmund Mercado, Dr. Arnulfo Mapayo, Dr. Alexander Floro; Alma Ajero, OpSmile Mission coordinator, nurses Annabelle Baldelomar, Jeanne Cunanan,
Maria Rowena Velasquez; Larry Beluso, patient imaging technician, and Roland Bernardino, Biomedical technician.

These free surgical operations on patients who have cleft lip/palate aim to restore the smiles of many people after they undergone surgical operations. Alongside their joy, patients will have a positive outlook and rebuild their confidence.
