NAGA CITY, Cebu, Philippines – The 100-megawatt unit 2 Cebu Coal Fired Power Plant in Barangay Colon, this city, has been issued a Certificate of Compliance from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), allowing the power plant to permanently operate.

The power plant owned by the Korean Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) is expected to provide 11.24 percent of the Visayas Grid’s power requirements.

According to the ERC, the power plant has satisfactorily complied with the financial, technical and environmental requirements warranting its issuance of a COC.

KEPCO was able to complete the final stage of the testing and commissioning of said Unit 2 power plant and was able to submit to the ERC the required statement of Reliability and Performance Test results.

The evaluation indicates that KEPCO is well within the Market Share Limitations set by the ERC pursuant to cross ownership, market power abuse, and anti-competitive behavior provisions of Republic Act No. 9136 otherwise known as the Electric Power Industry Reform Act of 2001.

Based on its Debt Service Capability Ratio, the power firm also has the capability to finance its long term debts through the period covered by the COC.

KEPCO’s Unit 2 power plant is equipped with Circulation Fluidized Bed Combustion (CFBC) technology which is intended to reduce generated greenhouse emissions while offering cost savings in its operation.

KEPCO has a Power Supply Agreement with nine companies, seven of which are electric cooperatives.
