MANILA, Philippines — The Sarangani provincial government and Mindanao-based agribusiness firm Alcantara Group donated Tuesday five million bangus or milkfish fry to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) to replenish fish pens in Batangas and Pangasinan hit by fish kill.

Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala and BFAR national director Asis Perez received the bangus fry to be distributed to the affected fish pen and fish cage owners in Laurel, Batangas, and Anda and Bolinao towns in Pangasinan.

The bangus fry will be coming from Finfish Hatcheries in Malapatan, Sarangani.

The Department of Agriculture (DA), through BFAR, will transport the fry to the affected provinces within the next few days.

Alcala said the donation will be “a big boost to the affected fish pen and fish cage owners, all of whom suffered losses due to the fish kill in excess of P100 million.”
