Roadside drug tests continue – LTO
CEBU CITY, Cebu, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Central Visayas Tuesday warned drug-using public utility drivers that the random roadside drug test in Cebu will go on to ensure the safety of the general riding public.
LTO 7 Director Raul Aguiluz made the pronouncement after the first launch of the roadside drug test showed that at least five percent of public utility vehicle drivers tested here were found positive of illegal drug use.
At least 10 drivers of public utility vehicles were tested positive for drug use during the first launch of the roadside drug test and Aguiluz said his office will never allow any drug user to drive a public utility vehicle.
During the first launch, one van for hire, five jeepneys, and four taxi drivers tested positive out of 71 drivers subjected to the tests. The drivers' names were withheld pending the results of two weeks of “confirmatory tests.”
Aguiluz, during the weekly 888 News Forum at Marco Polo Plaza Hotel in Cebu City Tuesday said, “using drugs is a vice that will surely destroy the driver's ability to drive safely. Much more, this vice destroys the future of their families.”
