ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — A safehouse of the government for the protection of state witnesses became “unsafe” after two policemen shot each other inside the facility that resulted to the wounding of two witnesses.

The policeman guarding the safehouse was killed in the incident – unfortunately by another policemen also assigned at the safehouse of the Department of Justice (DoJ) in Barangay Tetuan here.

Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) director Sr. Supt Edwin de Ocampo identified the suspect as PO3 Carmelito Macansantos, while the policeman who died on the spot was PO1 Tomas Dauba, both of the ZCPO.

Those injured were identified as Marvin Agullana and Mark Ausley, both witnesses to a kidnapping case pending at a local court in this city, and both are under the witness protection program of DoJ.
