CEBU CITY, Philippines – The National ICT Confederation of the Philippines (NICP) is calling on the present administration to reconsider its plan to abolish the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT).

In a statement, the NICP deems Executive Order 47, a move to downgrade the former Commission of Information and Communication Technology (CICT) to a mere attached agency of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST, as a “setback for the Philippine information and communication technology (ICT) sector.”

According to Cebu Educational Development Foundation for Information Technology (Cedf-it) Executive Director Jun Sa-a said Cebu stakeholders “were surprised by the announcement since there was no public consultation made on the order.”

Cedf-it is a member of the NICP and is the pioneering ICT council of the Philippines.
