LONDON (AFP) – A Briton won a record 185 million euros in the Euro Millions lottery, lottery operator Camelot announced. The previous record holder was also a player from Britain who won 129 million euros ($181 million) in October 2010. The Euro Millions lottery, launched in 2004, is now played by nine countries across western Europe: Austria, Belgium, Britain, France, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland. A spokesman for Britain's National Lottery said: "This is amazing news. We are absolutely delighted that a UK ticket holder has scooped the entire 185 million euro jackpot.”

China's Jiang ‘rested at home’ 

BEIJING (Reuters) – Former Chinese President Jiang Zemin was resting at home last week as rumors swirled that he had died, prompting at least two media outlets to report he had in fact passed away, a Hong Kong newspaper reported on Wednesday. Citing sources who had "been briefed about Jiang's health," the South China Morning Post said the 84-year-old had been admitted to a Beijing military hospital last month with a fever. But he was discharged before the July 1 celebrations of the 90th anniversary of the Communist Party, the report said. His non-appearance at that event had begun the speculation about his demise, as many other former leaders did show up.

Man'sprivates cut off, trashed

GARDEN GROVE, California (AP) — A Southern California woman was in custody Tuesday after authorities said she drugged her estranged husband, tied him to a bed, cut off his organ and put it through a garbage disposal. Garden Grove police Lt. Jeff Nightengale said that Catherine Kieu Becker drugged a meal and served it to the victim, whose name was not released, shortly before the attack Monday night. Nightengale said the 51-year-old man felt sick, went to lie down and lost consciousness. The 48-year-old Becker then tied the victim's arms and legs to the bed with rope, removed his clothes and attacked him with a 10-inch kitchen knife as he awoke, Nightengale said. "He was conscious when his penis was removed," Nightengale said.
