QC police night patrols intensified
MANILA, Philippines — Police night patrols will be stepped up by 100 percent around call centers, television and radio networks, restaurants, malls and in dimly lighted places in Quezon City.
In his directive to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director, Chief Superintendent George Regis, Mayor Herbert Bautista specifically the patrols to be on the lookout for motorcycle-riding criminals preying on night-shift workers.
Bautista issued the instructions after staffers of giant networks ABS-CBN and GMA-7 were victimized by motorcycle riding robbers.
He also ordered the city’s Task Force Streetlights to replace defective lights and bulbs of street lamps to ensure public safety.
Regis vowed to put more choke and check points in strategic areas and deploy more police and mobile patrol units with sirens and blinkers.
Other police officers in civilian clothes will be deployed in crime-prone areas to conduct surveillance, Regis said.
He said the District Police Intelligence and Operation Unit (DPIOU) has a list of suspects in motorcycle-aided robberies who are now being hunted.
Regis attributed the rise in crimes by motorcycle-riding criminals to “the fact that QCPD had focused in solving four-wheeled vehicle crimes as in the case of Teresita Teano who was killed last June 15.”
