Mission accomplished
MANILA, Philippines — The three-man medical assistance team of Filipino doctors who were sent last June 28 to the areas in Japan devastated by the earthquake and tsunami of March 11 returned to Manila Wednesday noon following a successful mission.
Dr. Maria. Paz P. Corrales, Dr. Aida L. Muncada and Dr. Sharon J. Triunfo arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and were met by Japanese Consul General to Manila Minister Motohiko Kato.
Before leaving Japan, the team paid a courtesy call on Makiko Kikuta, the parliamentary vice minister for foreign affairs.
The team, together with Japanese medical doctors and clinical psychologists, conducted mobile medical assistance operations for disaster victims including families of Filipino nationals in Iwate and Miyagi Prefectures.
They visited hospitals, evacuation centers and the houses in Iwate Prefecture (Ofunato city, Rikuzen-Takata city, Morioka city, Kuji city, Noda mura, Otsuchi cho, Kamaishi city) and Miyagi Prefecture (Kesen-numa city, Sendai city, Minami-Sanriku cho) and had psychosocial counseling for around 200 Filipino women, their Japanese spouses and their children.
