No classes in QC Monday
MANILA, Philippines — The entire forces of the Philippine National Police (PNP) across the country were placed Saturday in the highest security alert status in preparation for President Aquino’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) Monday.
Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz Jr., PNP spokesman, said every aspect of the security measures have already been ironed out, from the deployment of anti-riot cops to even subjecting some of their personnel who would be assigned to do field works to seminar to human rights seminar to avert possible clashes with protesters.
Cruz said the full alert status (equivalent to red alert in military) took effect at 8 a.m. Saturday and is expected to be lifted as soon as the security normalizes after the SONA.
The Department of Education (DepEd) and Commission on Higher Education (CHED) have announced the suspension of classes in all levels both in public and private in Quezon City Monday.
The suspension of classes in the tertiary level came from CHED Officer-in-charge Nona Ricafort.
In a memorandum issued to Presidents and Administrators of Concerned Public and Private Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), Ricafort said that classes in colleges and universities—both in private and public — in Quezon City along the route of Batasan Pambansa shall be “suspended from 12 noon onwards.” Upon CHED’s recommendation, classes in ABE International Business College in Commonwealth, Access Computer and Technical Colleges in Lagro, AMA Computer College in Fairview, Asia School of Arts and Sciences- The College of Information Technology in Tandang Sora, Asian Institute of Computer Studies in Commonwealth, Ateneo De Manila University, Bestlink Institute of Information Technology, Colegio de Sta. Teresa de Avila Foundation, Inc., Datamas-College of Saint Adeline in Fairview, Diliman Computer Technology Institute, FEU-Dr. Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation, FEU-FERN College, Institute of Community and Family Health, Inc., Mary the Queen College of Science and Technology, Metro Manila College, Miriam College, National College of Business and Arts in Fairview, New Era University, Our Lady of Fatima University in Quezon City, Saint Anthony Mary Claret College, Inc., St. Bernadette of Lourdes College, St. Dominic Institute, STI College in Fairview, and University of the Philippines in Diliman will be cancelled.
