ILIGAN CITY, Lanao del Norte, Philippines (PIA) – Various groups in this city showed their support to the noble “Project 111111” or the 11/11/11 (Nov. 11, 2011) – a call to everyone to donate. The six figures “one” stands for 1-City, 1-Project, 1-Goal, 1-Heart, 1-Day, 1-Record, explained City Councilor Michelle Sweet, project proponent, during the kick-off program ceremony held at the city public plaza.

She said the project was launched with a motorcade around the city’s main thoroughfare, converged at the city public plaza, on July 23-111 days before Nov. 11, 2011. Meanwhile, Sweet urges every Iliganon to donate something for the less fortunate.

New school

COTABATO CITY – Paradigm-shifting officials of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division (ID) has turned over another school building that its Task Force Bigkis Lahi (TFBL) built in a convergent venture with civilian agencies for conflict-affected villagers in Maguindanao.

The officers of the two-classroom school building, freshly built by skilled troops of the TFBL, was turned over by officials of the 6th ID led by Brig. Gen. Rey C. Ardo in ceremonies at the Kulambog Elementary School in Kulambog, Sultan Sa Barongois town Tuesday. The facility is one of several school buildings constructed or repaired by the TFBL. Eye services

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur – Initially, at least 114 poor patients with eye defects were given free surgical eye services here on Wednesday. The on-going free eye services is part of the province’s “Vision 2020-Surigao del Sur – The Right to Sight Program.”

Also given free eye services were those with cataract and squint, and other less fortunate with eye problem. The poor of the poorest villagers availed of the free Medical-Surgical Operation and Check-up at the Adela Serra Ty Memorial Medical Center (ASTMMC) here. If done outside, it was learned that the cost of eye surgical operation can reach P50,000. (Mike Crismundo)

Peace council

MARAWI CITY – Lanao del Sur Gov. Mamintal A. Adoing Jr. has convened here the Provincial Peace and Order Council to tackle the enhanced anti-crime and security measures aimed at furthering the favorable rating the province garnered lately from national authorities.

This developed after Col. Daniel Lucero, chief of the Army’s 103rd Infantry Brigade based here, said that the successful raid on a notorious haven here on July 22 opened the gate of pounding efforts to rid this city of syndicated crimes including some people selling and using illegal drugs with impunity. Additional fund

BUTUAN CITY – In its aim to support the social services and fast-growing economy and population, and other basic services to the people here, the Sangguniang Panglungsod (SP) approved the supplemental budget amounting to P80,012,292. Under SP Ordinance No. 3760-2011, the measure will pave the way to set aside the said “Supplementary Expenditures,” under the city’s General Fund.

The local measure was approved by the legislators during the Council’s Regular Session last week. The amount was part of the city’s Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) share last year. The allocation will be used for the rehabilitation of roads, school buildings, and other facilities. (Mike Crismundo)
