Bohol provincial governor takes oath as new RPOC 7 chair
TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, Philippines – Bohol Governor Edgar Chatto officially assumed the chairmanship of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) in Central Visayas after being sworn into office by President Benigno Aquino III last Tuesday.
Chatto, who vowed to tackle the issue on cybersex during the first meeting of the RDC 7, thanked Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, who had been RPOC 7 chairperson for over six years, for the Council’s achievements, among which have been the reduction of crime in t he region.
It was during the term of Garcia when Cebu, Bohol and Siquijor achieved insurgency-free status.
For her part, Garcia said she has great confidence in the leadership of Chatto.
“I believe that under his stewardship, the RPOC 7 will continue to achieve great gains in our all-out campaigns against such ills of society like illegal drugs and illegal fishing,” Garcia said in assuring her all-out support to the new RPOC leadership.
After Chatto was sworn to office as new RPOC 7 head, President Aquino proceeded to Trinidad town inaugurate the new modern P28-million LGU Trinidad Municipal Hall with a session hall named after the President's father, former Senator Benigno Aquino Jr., and the unveiling of the President Corazon C. Aquino Botanical Garden located in theTrinidad Agri-Park.
The first official visit of the President to Bohol comes at a time when Boholanos here are eager to know whether or not the much delayed project of a new airport in the province will push through considering that the existing airport in Bohol’s capital, Tagbilaran City, is plagued with a congestion problem and various technical risks.
