MANILA, Philippines — President Aquino has authorized the crafting of a draft bill that will revitalize the government-owned People’s Television Network (PTV) Channel 4.

The President asked Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. and Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) to prepare the priority bill in time for the meeting of the Legislative Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) this month.

Aquino met recently with some cabinet members and officials from the government mass media to tackle an action plan to improve the quality of public service and entertainment programs of the government’s broadcasting service.

PTV General Manager and Chief Operating Officer Renato Caluag said the August 1 meeting with the President centered on his call to his plan to reinvigorate the government network as announced in his State of the Nation Address last month.

Caluag said the President asked the group to develop concrete proposals to ensure “that we deliver effective programming that centers on disseminating government information and services” to the public.”
