P50-million worth of road projects completed in Apayao – DPWH
CONNER, Apayao — More than P50 million worth of road projects were completed by the First Apayao Engineering District within its area of jurisdiction to help improve inter-barangay, inter-municipal and inter-provincial linkages beneficial to convenient travel and economic growth.
The completion of the two road projects worth P25 million each was done in accordance with the policy of Public works Secretary Rogelio Singson which prescribes the right project with the right quality and the right cost which will help in the development of remote communities nationwide, including this remote Cordillera province.
Engr. Jaime G. Lumiqued, district engineer of the First Apayao Engineering District, said the implementation of the two major road projects were done through the strict monitoring of the quality assurance unit to make sure that the completed projects were done in accordance to plans and specifications.
The completed road projects include the 3.5-kilometer upgrading and concreting of a portion of the Abbot-Conner road and the rehabilitation of the Linneng section of the road which will result in convenient travel of motorists going to and from the towns of Conner and Cabugao.
According to Lumiqued, the implementation of infrastructure projects was strictly supervised by competent technical personnel from the district, regional and even central offices of the agency to ensure that the completed projects will be done as programmed so that it will be beneficial to the communities.
Based on earlier DPWH reports, Apayao is the province with the least concreted national roads at approximately 80 percent and there is a need for the agency to ensure the quality implementation of infrastructure projects.
Once roads in the province are improved, the district engineer said, agriculture stakeholders stand to benefit from good roads with a significant reduction in the transportation cost of farm products brought to the market that will translate to increased income for the farmers and improved living conditions.
Lumiqued expressed his gratitude to Rep. Eleanor Bulut-Begtang, Gov. Elias Bulut Jr., the provincial, municipal and barangay officials for their unrelenting support to the speedy implementation of projects in the district.
