Fishermen rescued off Surigao Norte
SURIGAO CITY, Philippines – After being reported missing for 12 days in seawaters off Eastern Samar, two missing fishermen were finally rescued by some fishermen along the municipal seawaters of Sta. Monica, Surigao del Norte last weekend, police reported Monday.
Initial report received by the Surigao del Norte Provincial Police Office from Sta. Monica Municipal Police Station said the rescued fishermen were immediately brought to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
The police said the rescued fishermen were all in good condition.
The police identified the rescued fishermen as Jonathan Roncales, 38, married; and Michael Diolola, 30, also married, both residents of Labaan Dolores, Eastern Samar.
They were rescued at 1 p.m. on Friday by fishermen led by Isidro R. Palahang in General Luna town, Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte.
Initial police investigation showed that the fishermen sailed off for fishing last Aug. 1 when their fishing boat ran out of fuel.
They drifted at sea for 12 days until they reached the coast of Sta. Monica where they were rescued.
