BORACAY, Aklan, Philippines — Aklan leaders hailed the birth of an international media organization here that would, according to Aklan Governor Carlito S. Marquez, “connect the wonders of Boracay island to the world.”

Dubbed Boracay Global Press Corps (BGPC), the global media organization is envisioned to be similar to the tourism-oriented press corps or media association existing in Bali, Indonesia; Phuket in Thailand; Gold Coast, Australia; Acapulco and Cancun in Mexico; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and in many other tourist destinations in the world.

Marquez, along with Malay Mayor John P. Yap, and former Rep. Allen Salas Quimpo hailed the BGPCs establishment, calling it a “welcome development.”

The Aklan governor said an organized media contingent, similar to what exists in other tourist destinations, is a “good thing happening” in central Philippines, particularly one which is based in Boracay island.

“Indeed, the BGPC can greatly help promote the wonders of Boracay, an island of Aklan province with unparalleled natural, cultural and leisure activities providing wholesome fun and excitement for families and honeymooners,” Marquez said.
