City suspends car park construction

GENERAL SANTOS CITY, Philippines  -- The city engineer’s office has temporarily suspended the construction of a car park building of SM Mall after its structure collapsed Sunday dawn injuring at least four construction workers.

City Engineer Mark Reyes ordered the suspension of work at the seven-storey building until an investigation is completed to determine the cause of the incident.

“The building should be cleared of the debris and the SM mall management will have to ensure the safety of workers at the construction site,” Reyes said.

Debby Go, SM regional operations manager, said is coordinating with the project contractor, Monolith Construction Inc., in the investigation into the cause of the accident and to determine any liability for the construction firm.
