CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines — At least 90 housing beneficiaries in Butuan City and Cagayan de Oro City received early this week their Transfer Certificates of Title (TCTs) at a Cagayan de Oro City hotel and convention center.

The housing project is under the community mortgage program of the Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC).

No less than Vice President Jejomar C. Binay handed over the land titles to beneficiaries in the two frontier cities in Northeastern and Northern Mindanao regions during the 10th “Pabahay Caravan” here.

The two-day “Pabahay Caravan,” which started on Monday, is a series of housing events aimed at building stronger partnership with local government units (LGUs) in delivering quality homes to their constituents.

Binay, who also chairs the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC), led the distribution of TCTs to 11 beneficiaries of the National Housing Authority (NHA) projects.

Along with officials of the two cities, the Vice-President also awarded titles to 11 borrowers who have fully paid their accounts under the unified home lending program of the National Home Mortgage Finance Corporation (NHMFC).

In an effort to build stronger partnership with local government units (LGUs) in delivering quality homes to their constituents, Binay and other top officials of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) conferred with the region’s top local officials about the various housing programs and services of the government.

Binay said it is the role of the HUDCC to enable local officials to provide housing services by orienting them on the different housing programs and granting financial support to implement such projects in their areas.

Anchored on the theme “Strengthening Local Government Units (LGU) in Housing Delivery and Local Development Planning,” the caravan is the 10th of the series of housing events aimed at reorienting and updating LGUs on the various housing programs available as well as the roles LGUs play in the delivery of housing services to their constituents.

By making the LGUs aware of housing programs and services, the Vice-President said the caravan will be able to encourage local officials to work together with the national government in accelerating shelter production and enhancing the delivery of housing services to the people.

Heads of the government shelter agencies such as the NHA, Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (HLURB), Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF), Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC), and NHMFC presented their respective housing programs and services during the two-day housing caravan here.
