Jail officers revive drowning teenager
MANILA, Philippines -- A group of officers from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Sunday rescued and revived a teenager who nearly drowned in Davao City's Tamugan River.
The members of the Jail Officers on Bike (JOB) were heading to the Tamugan River to wash up after a tree-planting project when they heard cries of help.
Jail Officer (JO) 3 Edgar Soledad ran towards the sound of the cries for help and saw the unconscious 17-year-old Rey Mahinay of Barangay San Miguel, Calinan, Davao City floating face down in the river.
Soledad and other JOB members pulled Mahinay out of the river, placed him on a flat surface and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the teenager who was no longer breathing.
“The teen was already pale and wasn’t breathing anymore,” said Senior Insp. Roberto C. Gotico, chief of the Community Relations Service (CRS) of BJMP-XI and one of the JOB rescuers.
