Gov't assures sufficient holiday goods

BUTUAN CITY, Philippines — The government on Thursday assured the consuming public of sufficient, safe, quality and affordable foods during the forth-coming celebrations of the All Saints and All Souls Days and the Yuletide celebration.

The government assured the public following the series of calamities, particularly typhoons that struck various parts of the country.

At this early, the Department of Agriculture (DA) is already aiming to ensure of sufficient, safe, quality and affordable foods for all consumers.

Meanwhile, Ms. Lynn Pareñas, DA-Caraga Crops Division Chief bared that DA-Caraga continues to campaign for a safe, quality and affordable foods for all by ensuring the quality of food production in the farm lands of Caraga region.

“DA is also promoting organic agriculture to farmers for them to engage into the natural way of farming. Thus, DA is providing trainings to farmers to orient them on how to go about the organic farming and improve their skills. We also promote quality vegetables to the youth,” Pareñas said.

DA’s Agri-business Marketing Assistance Division Officer-in-Charge Ms. Servilla Balaan emphasized that the general public should know their rights as consumers because a well-informed consumer is the best protected consumer.

Balaan further said Republic Act 7394 otherwise known as the “Consumer Act of the Philippines” is the policy of the State in order to protect the interests of the consumer, promote his general welfare and to establish standards of conduct for business and industry.

Because of this, DA-Caraga will also be conducting the forum on Friday dubbed “ConsumerNet Meets the Public,” where issues and concerns related to consumers will be discussed and resolved.
