Angono honors hometown national artist
ANGONO, Rizal, Philippines — Municipal officials and employees will lead town folks in tree-planting and wreath-laying activities to commemorate the birth anniversary of one of the country’s national artists.
Mayor Gerardo “Gerry” Calderon is scheduled to lead municipal officials and employees and volunteers from the private sector in the greening activity at Luxury Villa in San Isidro in this town on Friday morning, November 4. The date marks the 99th birthday of National Artist for Paintaing, Carlos “Botong” Francisco.
Botong is one of the national artist of the town aside from Maestro Lucio D. San Pedro.
Before the tree planting ceremony, the residents will offer candles and flowers at the tomb of Francisco at the Angono Catholic Cemetery here at 7:30 a.m. on November 7. The residents will offer a tribute to Botong, who became famous for his murals including the one displayed now at the Manila City Hall.
Botong is also known for discovering the Angono Petroglyphs in Binangonan, which are considered the oldest prehistoric artwork.
