GUIUAN, Eastern Samar – Guiuan Mayor Analiza Gonzales-Kwan is inviting investors to invest in this municipality particularly in tourism-related business projects.

She told reporters in an interview that there is a steady increase in the number of local and foreign tourists who have visited the town in recent years.

Kwan said that this present development is the positive result of efforts by the town government in investing in tourism projects and promoting Guiuan in the national and international scene to attract more tourists to the municipality.

Gonzales-Kwan said it is expected that more visitors will be coming to the town once the Guiuan airport is fully operational. “Even now that there is no operational airport, tourists come in increasing numbers,” she said.

She attributed the increase of tourists’ arrivals to Guiuan’s scenic beaches, historical markers and the famous Calico-an Island’s world-class surfing areas.

She said that the latest surfing competition in Calico-an island resulted in hotels and other accommodations in the town being fully booked.

The Guiuan mayor said with the steady increase of tourists visiting the town, there is a problem of accommodation and there is a need to build more hotels to accommodate the influx of tourists. (Restituto A. Cayubit)
