BORACAY ISLAND, Aklan, Philippines (PNA) — The Aklan provincial government is losing millions of pesos in revenues because of the effect of climate change.

Caticlan-Cagban jetty port administrator Niven Maquirang said the province already lost P20 million from recent erratic weather disturbances which has also affected Boracay island. The collection lost was supposed to have been collected from the P50-terminal fee paid by each inbound and outbound visitors to the island.

The Aklan provincial government is maintaining the jetty port in Caticlan and Cagban which accommodates sea transport for tourists going to and out of Boracay Island. However, during heavy rains and/or rough seas, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) does not allow motor bancas to sail the channel in the Caticlan-Cagban route.
