Caloocan motorcade against firecracker use
MANILA, Philippines — The Caloocan City government will hold a motorcade to highlight its campaign against the use of firecracker in celebrating New Year.
Caloocan Mayor Enrico Echiverri said the motorcade which will be joined by the Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas, headed by its president, Councilor Ricojudge “RJ” Echiverri, will be held on Sunday, December 18. It will start at 2 p.m. at Doña Aurora, Camarin, near north city hall.
The motorcade will go around the city to educate residents about the dangers of exploding firecrackers to celebrate the New Year.
The motorcade is in line with Action Paputok Injury Reduction (APIR), a campaign spearheaded by the national government aimed at reducing firecracker injuries.
The mayor instead urged residents to think of creative ways of greeting the New Year without being exposed to dangers posed by firecrackers.
Aside from Caloocan City, the cities of Manila and Marikina will also hold a Communal Fireworks Display. The one in Caloocan will take place at 6 p.m., December 27 at the Bonifacio Monument Circle (BMC).
The program will also be participated in by Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Department of Education (DepEd), Department of Health and various NGOs.
