CAAP to DoJ: Place ParaƱaque crash aircraft owner in watch list
MANILA, Philippines — The chief of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has asked the Department of Justice (DOJ) to place the owner of the aircraft that crash landed in a shanty town in Parañaque last Saturday that killed 14 people, in the Immigration's Watch List Order to prevent him from leaving the country.
CAAP Director General Ramon Gutierrez said Friday that he had made the request from the DOJ to prevent Fidel Hembrador, the owner of the ill-fated Beechcraft Queen Air cargo, so that he could testify before the investigation body which is trying to determine the cause of the crash.
Capt. Amado Soliman Jr., head of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Board (AAIB) meanwhile said that he has received word from Hembrador's lawyer who said he will appear at the CAAP office on Wednesday, December 21.
According to Captain Soliman, lawyer John Jeffrey Sarate received the subpoena in behalf of Hembrador.
Barangay Don Bosca Baranagay Captain Jun Virata said they support the call of the CAAP for adding Hembrado on the watch list order after they received reports that he was planning to leave the country and escape to the US.
"I hope he surface and help the victims settle their medical and funeral expenses," Virata said.
Meanwhile, the AAIB investigators looking into the possibility that engine failure could be the probable cause of the plane crash although Soliven said they are hopeful that they can come out with their report by next week.
According to Soliven, they discovered that the aircraft owner had no Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) raising the possibility that it was operating as a "colorum" plane.
