MANILA, Philippines — A two-hour conflict arose from police, fire and demolition personnel of San Juan City government and informal settlers residing in Barangay Corazon de Jesus Wednesday morning during a relocation operation by the local government.

Around 120 families were scheduled to be relocated to Rodriguez, Rizal Wednesday but 50 of the said families insisted on staying and had constructed a barricade blocking P. Narciso Street. Armed with Molotov bombs, stones, empty glass bottles and slingshots, resisting residents, and alleged supporting militants fought off authorities who tried to infiltrate the area which started the conflict at around 8:00 a.m.

Amateur video from the San Juan City Public Information Office showed a group of police personnel tried using riot shields to protect themselves as they tried to break off the makeshift barrier placed by militant residents. However, explosions from seven molotov bombs thwarted them, injuring several in the process. A payloader was also used by a demolition team but to no avail. Fire personnel used water to disperse militant until the conflict ended at around 10:00 a.m.

San Juan City PIO Chief Grace Pardines reported that sixteen (16) members of the San Juan City Police and Fire personnel, members of the demolition team and residents sustained burns, cuts and bruises during the incident. Eight of them were heavily injured and was immediately brought to the San Juan City Medical Center.
