5 quakes

SINAIT, Ilocos Sur, Philippines — Three earthquakes rocked Luzon areas last Wednesday followed by two more tremors in Visayas and Mindanao, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said Thursday.

There was no reported damage or casualty as a result of the five quakes, two of which were recorded in northern Luzon but did not register any intensity.

Phivolcs Researcher Porferio de Peralta, based in Sinait, Ilocos Sur, said the first quake happened at 9:04 p.m. with a magnitude of 2.9 and epicenter at 22 kilometers (km) southeast of Calayan, Cagayan while the second was 2.7-magnitude at 9:07 p.m. 4 km southeast of San Emilio, Ilocos Sur.

Meanwhile, a 4.0-magnitude quake occurred at 1 p.m., 27 km southeast of Virac, Catanduanes in Bicol. Intensity 2 was felt in Virac, Viga, and Bato, Catanduanes; Legazpi City; intensity 3 in Juban, Sorsogon; and intensity 4 in Cabid-an, Sorsogon City.
