Damaged pipeline
MANILA, Philippines — A main pipeline of Maynilad was damaged early Friday causing a great volume of water to rise-up like a fountain and turn a portion of the Alabang-Zapote Road in Las Pinas City into a virtual pond for several hours.
Initial investigation showed that the incident happened at 12:30 a.m. along Alabang-Zapote Road in Las Piñas.
Pablo Guevarra, who witnessed what happened before the water surged up, told authorities that a passenger jeep tried to unload some passengers in the area. At this point, a taxicab overtook the passenger jeep, and after the said cab passed by, a great volume of water surged up.
Christine De Acosta, Leak Detection Officer of Maynilad, said that the main pipe was "newly-laid" and as of the moment they could still not determine the cause of the leak. To temporarily remedy the situation, she said that they would have to decrease the water pressure to the main pipe. She reassured the residents of the area though that they will still continue to have water in their faucets. A team worked on for several hours, and were able to finally shut down the "fountain" shortly before 5 a.m.
