2 secret shabu labs uncovered
MANILA, Philippines — Anti-narcotics agents uncovered late Friday night two more secret shabu drug laboratories inside the exclusive Ayala-Alabang subdivision in Muntinlupa City and seized P15 million worth of illegal drugs a week after another raid was conducted in the same village, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said Saturday.
Armed with search warrants issued by a Manila court, agents of the PDEA-National Capital Region (PDEA-NCR), led by Director Pedrito Magsino, conducted simultaneous raids that started at around 11 p.m. Friday at 119 Kanlaon St. and 536 Country Club Drive.
Found at the Kanlaon St. property were three kilograms of shabu believed worth about P15 million, assorted chemicals, and laboratory equipment.
The PDEA also found at the Country Club Drive property laboratory equipment, chemicals, shabu waste, and residue.
But PDEA Director General Jose Gutierrez Jr. said no arrest was made during the raids as the properties were abandoned.
The operation was made after the PDEA, on the morning of January 6, arrested five foreigners during a raid on a medium-scale secret drug laboratory at 504 Acacia Avenue, Ayala-Alabang where agents seized several grams of shabu, precursors, essential chemicals, and laboratory equipment.
“The two properties were abandoned. There are signs that the occupants have hurriedly left. I believe they were prompted to leave following the raid on Acacia Avenue,” Gutierrez said.
The PDEA chief said his men are checking who own the two properties and who made the leases.
He believes that the two abandoned properties were also occupied by foreigners who could also be related to those arrested on Acacia Avenue.
Gutierrez said the raids on the two properties on Kanlaon and the Country Club Drive were based on tips the PDEA received from concerned citizens immediately after the operation on Acacia Avenue.
“I hope with the discovery of the drug laboratories, the homeowners would adopt measures that would prevent the entry of drug syndicates into the subdivision,” he said.
Malacañang likewise asked homeowners' associations in posh subdivisions to be vigilant of the activities of their new neighbors following the discovery of shabu laboratories. (With a report from JC Bello Ruiz)
