MANILA, Philippines — The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will join an expected 300,000 runners in an advocacy run dubbed as “Kahit Isang Araw Lang: Unity Run” which will be held simultaneously in seven cities in the country Sunday.

The event aims to provide computer and airconditioning units to public schools, at the same time, construct a “free” high school in Pampanga through the Department of Education (DepEd) "Adopt-A-School Program".

The main run will start at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City. At the same, similar runs will fire off in the cities of Cebu, Tacloban, Bacolod, Davao, Butuan, and Puerto Princesa.

The Army, Navy, and Air Force, will send reservists and Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) cadets to participate in the advocacy run.

AFP spokesman Col. Arnulfo Marcelo Burgos Jr. said the participating soldiers will come from the General Headquarters, the major services, National Capital Region Command (NCRC), Central Command (Centcom), Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom), and Western Command (Wescom).

AFP Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Jessie D. Dellosa said the participation of the military in the advocacy event “is one way of manifesting our deep concern for the future of the youth as the AFP’s duty goes beyond the security concerns of the country and its people.

“As a commitment to serve our nation better, we face a broader and collective goal which is to make sure our youth’s future is secured and that we will be able to improve their lives through education,” said Dellosa.
