Explosion rocks Makati
MANILA, Philippines — An explosion rocked a vacant lot in Salcedo village in Makati City Monday afternoon, damaging a vehicle parked and glass window panels of nearby establishments in the area.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident that occurred on Dela Costa Street, said Supt. Jaime Santos, Makati City police officer-in-charge.
Santos said they could not immediately confirm the cause of the blast that took place at past 2 p.m. while conducting a post-blast probe.
“We have cordoned off the area. No one was hurt except for a slightly damaged car,” Santos said.
The blast shattered the windshields of a parked Subaru sedan and sent fragments and debris across the street, damaging the glass panels of several business establishments along Dela Costa Street.
Santos said members of the Explosive Ordnance Division (EOD) and Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) will determine what type of explosive was used. Bomb-sniffing dogs were also deployed at the area.
“There was no intention to hurt anyone because the explosion took place in a vacant lot, and in it was a holiday so there were few people around,” the chief of police said.
When the explosion occurred, Santos said his men were conducting patrol operation as they are on red alert on holidays.
