BALANGA CITY, Bataan, Philippines — Barangay Cataning will receive P2 million cash award for being Balanga City’s “Pinakatatanging Barangay” in 2011 due to its various development and environment programs.

The giving of awards to outstanding barangays in the city is a program of Mayor Joet S. Garcia in a bid perhaps to further motivate barangay leaders to develop their areas.

Barangay Captain Benjie Meriño, president of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC), said Cataning, which bested 24 other barangays, also won the titles of “Barangay na May Pinakanatatanging Programang Pangkalusugan at Nutrisyon” and “Barangay na Natatanging Nagpapatupad ng Smoke-Free Program.”
