Terminal inspections
MANILA, Philippines — Inventory of public utility vehicles (PUV) and their terminals will be a regular routine for the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) starting this year.
Unlike before when government only called PUV operators for inventory by groups depending on their units, the LTFRB’s inventory of buses, jeepneys, express service vehicles, taxis, school services, and trucks-for-hire will now be done simultaneously.
But LTFRB Jaime Jacob said they won’t divulge the schedule of the inventory so that operators violating the terms of their franchise will be caught on the act.
“What we’ll do is deploy a team to specific terminals. We will notify the operators of our visit but not ahead of time so that they will not have the time to prepare for our visit,” he said.
He said the inventory will not only focus on double-checking if the PUV plates match the PUV units where it is identified with or if the franchise of the PUV unit is still valid at the time of the visit, but also check on the terminal declared by the PUV operator as to where they are housing their authorized units.
