MANILA, Philippines — A distressed migrant Filipino worker in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), is going home with the help of the Villar Foundation.

Cynthia A. Villar, managing director of the Villar Foundation, handed to 27-year-old Hasmia Macaalay the financial assistance and airline ticket so she can finally go back to her hometown in Kabacan, North Cotabato.

Villar met Macaalay at the office of the Philippine Overseas Labor Office-Overseas Workers’ Welfare Administration (POLO-OWWA) in Dubai. The former Las Piñas congresswoman and her husband, Senator Manny Villar, recently travelled to the UAE to check on the conditions of OFWs there.

Macaalay sought refuge at POLO-OWWA when she ran away after her Emirati employer attempted to rape her.
