Lake Overflows
BUTUAN CITY, Philippines – At least 3, 180 families or about 15, 561 persons were forced to flee their homes from the 15 lakeshore village communities after Lake Mainit overflowed due to weeklong widespread rains as a result of low pressure area all over Northeastern Mindanao (Caraga region). The Office of Civil Defense (OCD-13) reported that at least four houses were washed out by the flood. However, weather conditions improved Saturday, prompting some of the evacuees started to go back home. (Mike U. Crismundo)
Medical Mission
TUBOD, Lanao del Norte – At least 1,282 indigent patients coming from various village communities in Lanao del Norte province availed themselves of free medical, dental and surgical services during a three-day medical mission in this province. Along with medical officials of this province, close to 50 doctors and nurses belonging to the Adventist University of the Philippines (AUP) Alumni Association - Eastern North America Chapter (EASNAC) led the medical mission from Feb. 13 to 15. Environment Summit
ZAMBOANGA CITY – A non-governmental organization based in this city will undertake a summit called the Mindanao Environment Summit and Green Caravan aimed at educating the people about environmental problems and climate change in the region. The organization recently met in this city and discussed the twin environment awareness projects which will kick off with a caravan that will start in Zamboanga City and ends in Davao City where the summit will be held.
