The United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) is seeing a “sinister agenda” behind President Benigno Aquino III’s appointment of Macabangkit Lanto to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

UNA campaign manager Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco claimed that Team PNoy campaign manager Sen. Franklin Drilon lobbied hard for Lanto’s appointment.

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) yesterday seized two 40-foot container vans loaded with P12 million worth of illegally-imported used tires, electronic and computer routers, parts and accessories.

The confiscation of the items came on the heels of the seizure of smuggled rice, sugar, motorbike, fake Louis Vuitton bags and accessories and guns at Cebu City last week.

Gov. Eustaquio Bersamin said the festival aims to promote the one-town one-product project of the province which is bamboo, provide an opportunity for Abrenios to celebrate, and encourage Abrenios living in other provinces or abroad to come home.

Bersamin said the festival is a good opportunity to tell the world that Abra is safe and thriving.

ARAYAT, Pampanga — In effort to provide permanent shelters to the landslide victims in this town, the provincial government headed by Governor Lilia G. Pineda assured yesterday the completion of the construction of 170 houses of the affected families.

Pineda said the construction of the landslide victims’ shelters will be completed before the end of this year.

She said nearly half of the 170 houses for the victims of the 2009 landslide in Barangay San Juan Bano have already been built.

TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite — The provincial government has retained its International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certification with the positive findings of officers in another round of audit in its offices.

The Cavite provincial government was the first in the country that was given the ISO-9001:2008 certification after a thorough audit of its prime offices last year.

The ISO certification is a virtual seal for quality management, well governance, and good services and performance of those manning the offices.
