Oct. 15 declared regular holiday
Manila, Philippines – President Benigno S. Aquino III has signed Proclamation No. 658 declaring Oct. 15 as a regular holiday throughout the country in observance of Islam’s Eid’l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice.
Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said the proclamation was signed by President Aquino last Thursday.
Eid’l Adha is one of the two greatest feasts of Islam, the other being Eid’l Fitr or the Feast of Ramadan, which was also declared as a regular holiday on August 9 this year.
The Eid’l Adha is based on the declaration made by Saudi Arabia’s highest religious body.
It commemorates the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son Ishmael as an act of obedience to God, before God intervened to provide him with a sheep to sacrifice instead.
